Welcome 2014!

Happy New Year!!

So … here we go again … are you making any resolutions??

Am I? Um, well of course I am … I do it every year and well, we ‘could’ do a recap of last year, but let’s not, ok? Thanks for understanding.

This year, however, I’d like to keep it somewhat simple:

1.  Lose 10 lbs and keep it off. I’ve managed to lose 4 lbs in the past month. If I was to exercise more, I know I could lose more (and here’s to hoping the fitbit flex pushes me along) … which leads me to #2.

2.  Consistently make healthier choices, be it food, exercise, stress. This includes reducing the alcohol consumption, excuses and just plain bad attitude.

3.  Show my Hubby more love and affection. You don’t think 23 years of marriage is easy, do you?

4.  Reduce my spending substantially.  I’m thinking of putting myself on a grocery budget of $100 a week as opposed to the $150. This could be a problem but worth a try if Hubby stays unemployed for much longer.

5.  Continuing on from #4, go back to using coupons for those items we consistently buy, such as coffee, dishsoap, laundry soap, cat food, basically, every type of general use products! I need to stay out of Costco on a consistent basis.

6.  Attempt ONE new recipe per week to post. The recipe can be from Pinterest, cookbook, blog, wherever. I’ve been trying to do this and it’s not as easy as it sounds when you work 50 plus hours a week!

7.  Do more with my dad. Since he and his girl have roomed up, I just don’t do anything with him for fun. He’s 80, so that sort of limits the fun factor, but still.

8.  Keep a clothing journal.  Ok, this is a little off. BUT, I want to try and go the year without buying any NEW clothes, with the exception of undergarments and possibly shoes. Shoes are hard to find. I’m not a clothes horse, by any means, but still. The journal is to keep track of what I buy and how much it cost. I like to look back at something in 3 months and say, geesh, I’ve worn this x amount of times, it’s really paid for itself.

9.  And in keeping with #8, clean out the closets and dressers for a more organized morning.

10.  Last, but not least, SAVE MONEY. Not sure what happened but I certainly fell off that train last year. I have a little over $700 in savings (wow!?) and need to amp it up to $1,000 for the “emergency fund” and then get the credit cards paid off and THEN save more. I think it might be easier now that Sonny Boy is back home going to college locally.

Ok. There you have it. None of those look to be overly difficult, right? So let’s see if I can do this!

What are your resolutions/goals for the new year?

  1. Those all sound wonderful! I am on 10 yrs of marriage and I feel ya on #3. Sounds like you got a great list there and I hope to watch you complete them all. And I am nosey and love to read blogs because they give me a glimpse into someone else's lives. It is like reading a book that is still being written (I love to read)

  2. I need to reign in the grocery budget too…ours gets out of hand quickly!http://ithinkicansquared.blogspot.com/2014/01/2014-goals.html

  3. Yes, now that Sonny Boy (who is 21 now) just moved back from school, the pantry is a wreck and the budget is out of control so a Pantry Challenge is underway!
