I’m sure everyone has seen this recipe out there … but when one of the attorney’s gave me the recipe to try I decided to do it. Because, hey, we had that boat parade party and I was trying to do it within the budget this year.
So I made it with modifications.
I had everything on hand EXCEPT the crackers. I mean, who has saltines readily available?
Oh. Apparently a lot of people do.
I didn’t. I planned to head over to Aldi to pick up a box for what I’m sure would only be around 79 cents or so.
But that trip never happened, so instead, Publix it was. This box cost me $2.09 if you can believe that. Whatever, I was on a mission here …
Let’s get crackin, shall we??
1 sleeve of saltine crackers which equals about 35 to 40
2 sticks of unsalted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
sprinkles galore
Crank up the oven to 350 degrees. Line your baking tray with some parchment paper and give it a good spray with some non-stick spray. Lay out the crackers in a single layer.
Melt the butter and brown sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly for about 2 minutes. Uhm, be careful you don’t stir it out of the pan as it is really hot and will make a mess all over your clean stove.
Top with the chocolate chips, put back in the oven and bake for 3 to 4 minutes, til chips are melted.
Yeah, we like sprinkles in this house and I just never use them anymore so this was GREAT to use up that stash!
Cut the stuff into squares and then put the whole pan in the fridge til firm. * I didn’t cut them before I put them in the fridge and I was a little sorry as that chocolate gets HARD once it firms up!
I really really urge you to give this a try … it’s a HUGE hit!
Enjoy!
I always have saltines in my pantry as it is the cracker of choice to go with soup unless I have some good bread on hand. My husband would make a savory cracker with a little butter, Italian dressing and some good Parmesan and broil briefly. I like your sweet Christmas Crack Candy better.
